    INVESTIGATORS PRESENT:
    Laura / Donna

    LOCATION HISTORY:
    Monroe County, PA
    Built 1778

The Swiftwater Inn is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, having provided defense and fortification functions between 1750 and 1799. The construction of the Swiftwater Inn dates back to 1778, when it was built as a stockade fort. Originally it was named Stanhope by members of the Samuel Powell family of Philadelphia. Samuel Powell was the last colonial mayor of Philadelphia. The first reference to the name Swiftwater is dated 1867.

The inn was a place where neighboring pioneers could join forces for protection from the indians.
For 200 years, Swiftwater has had a continuing function as an Inn. At the beginning it housed an occasional traveler or pioneer.
Then it became a stage stop and began to flourish, as it did till recently. The decision was made to demolish it because it was deamed unsafe. The Swiftwater Inn provided travelers with shelter and entertainment for the last 200 years. Many Paranormal groups have been there and have all agreed that the Swiftwater Inn has its spirits. The local people refered to the Inn as "The Swifty," they certainly agree the spirits have been active throughout the years. On many occasions they could be heard and seen.

Where do spirits go after they have lived in one place for the last 200 years and what kept them there? Who are they? Was it the hospitality of the Inn keepers, are they lost souls, restless spirits? We will never know the answers to these and many other questions..

    PHENOMENON EXPERIENCED:

Laura and I stood on the vacant land where the Swiftwater Inn made it's name in history. We decided to take some pictures. At first I was able to snap a fewphotographs. I began to ask the spirits that are believed to reside there, if they were unhappy when their home was torn down. That was when I caught what seems to be some sort of anomaly in the photo. I was unable to take more pictures since my camera malfunctioned. I know the battery was charged because I had taken pictures a day ago and re-charged the battery afterwards.

We kept talking photos and asking questions. Out of the blue we were surrounded by black, very large flies! They were not horse flies. It was very strange to say the least. Both Laura and I were not sure what was happening. We both decided at the same time that it was time to leave the property.

    SUMMARY:

It was sad to see a piece of vacant land where such a beautiful historical structure once stood. The phenomenon we both experienced was very strange and unexplainable. The camera, the flies, the feelings we both felt..I felt feelings of sadness all around me.
We tend to agree with past paranormal researchers, the land where the Swiftwater Inn once stood, still has it's spirits!

In the near future on the 27 acre site and new hotel / bar / restaurant will be built. Will the spirits take up residence there? That remains to be seen!
